Motherhood is a beautiful journey, but it can also feel SO overwhelming. After birth your hormones crash so it’s no wonder you don’t feel like yourself! Depression and anxiety and sneak up on your when you least expect it. You may find yourself questioning who you are outside of being a mom, struggling to balance feedings, diaper changes, and sleepless nights with work, relationships, and the life you once knew. The mental load is constant—spiraling thoughts about whether you’re doing enough, worrying about every little thing, trying to remember all the “to-dos” for you and your family, yet feeling like there’s never enough time for yourself. Showers feel like a luxury, laundry piles up, and the idea of self-care seems impossible! If you’re feeling anxious, depressed, exhausted, or just not like yourself, you’re not alone—and you don’t have to figure it all out on your own.
What is Postpartum Depression and Anxiety?
We have all heard of these terms but what do they mean?
What is Postpartum Depression and Anxiety?
Postpartum depression and postpartum anxiety are mood and anxiety disorders that can occur after giving birth. Many new mothers experience temporary “baby blues” which last about 1-2 weeks. Postpartum depression and anxiety are more intense and longer-lasting. These conditions can affect emotional well-being, sleep, bonding, and daily functioning. They are not a reflection of your strength or your love for your baby — they are treatable mental health conditions that deserve support.
How Common is Postpartum Depression and Anxiety?
Postpartum depression affects approximately 1 in 7 women. Postpartum anxiety is estimated to affect up to 1 in 5 women, and many experience both at the same time. Despite how common these conditions are, many mothers struggle in silence due to shame, guilt, or the belief that they “should” feel happy during this stage.
You are not alone — and you are not failing.
